Prasant Kumar Mohapatra joins as MD of OPGC Ltd.

Bhubaneswar/ IB Thermal, 12/03/2021: Shri Prasant Kumar Mohapatra, has joined today as Managing Director of Odisha Power Generation Corporation Ltd... Department of Energy of Govt. of Odisha had issued a notification on Wednesday confirming his appointment in the post. Shri Mohapatra is the first person to be appointed as Managing Director of OPGC Ltd. after exit of AES and subsequent acquisition of full management control by the State government.

Shri Mohapatra has an illustrious career over a period of 39 years in NTPC in which he spearheaded an array of pivotal roles ranging from the concept to commissioning of large and super critical power plants. His was retired from the service of NTPC Ltd. in the year 2019 as the Director (Technical) and was working as a senior advisor at NSPCL (NTPC-SAIL Power Company Limited). As Director (Technical) he was heading Engineering, Quality, NETRA (R&D wing of NTPC), Information Technology & ERP and Environment Engineering departments, apart from carrying out board level responsibilities including various sub committees of the board. As an additional responsibility he also served as the chairman of APCPL (JV with Govt. of Delhi and Haryana) and NVVN (Subsidiary of NTPC).

Shri Prasant Kumar Mohapatra hails from Bhubanewsar. He completed his schooling in Bhubaneswar before being graduated in Mechanical Engineering from REC (now NIT) Rourkela in the year 1980. The same year he joined NTPC as an Executive Trainee. At NTPC Shri Mohapatra started with Corporate Engineering Department and later moved to Talcher Super Thermal Plant where he served in Mechanical Erection and Turbine Maintenance. As Head of Maintenance and later as head of O&M, he spearheaded several critical R&M activities at Talcher Thermal Power Plant. As head of O&M at Vindhyachal (3260MW), he was responsible for commissioning of new units as well as R&M of 200MW units.

Highlight of his career include Commissioning 1st Once-through Boiler at Kaniha, R&M of Talcher Thermal Power Station, which later turned into the flagship plant of NTPC. Commissioning the three Supercritical Units of 660 MW at Sipat with the help of indigenous solutions against all the odds. He resolved the Coal GCV issues with the deployment of CIMFR at Kahalgaon, which has now become a standard practice in all the plants of India. Under his able leadership, commissioning of three supercritical units of NTPC at Lara, Gadarwara and Khargone was completed successfully.
