Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited (OPGC) was incorporated on November 14, 1984. OPGC started as a wholly owned Government Company of the State of Odisha with the main objective of establishing, operating & maintaining Thermal power generating stations.
In the pursuit of its objective, OPGC established IB Thermal Power Station having two units of 210 MW each in the Ib valley area of Jharsuguda District in the State of Odisha. These Units have become operational since 1994 (1st Unit) and 1996 (2nd Unit) respectively. More ....

	In alignment of change of the name of the State from Orissa to Odisha OPGC name has been changed from Orissa Power Generation Corporation Ltd. to Odisha Power Generation Corporation Ltd. with effect form 9th Feb - 2012 .

	OPGC has been accorded Envirnoment Clearance for capacity addition of 2X660 MW Thermal Power Plant at IB Thermal Power Station.
	We received the CII award (1st) in Best Practices on SHE on 20th Nov, evening from Honorable Chief Minister, Odisha with his message "Well done OPGC & Congratulation"..
		OPGC recieved the "Greentech Environment Excellence Gold Award" for the year 2008 in the 9th Greentech Environment Award function in Goa on 5th September 08.
	• OPGC received First Prize in Lowest weighted frequency rate of Accident by Directorate of Factories and Boilers, Odisha , Bhubaneswar "
		• OPGC received "Greentech Safety Gold Award-2007"
	• OPGC received "Greentech Environment Excellence Gold Award-2006"
